I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. My mom is an artist. My sister is an artist. My dad was an artist. We all have our own styles and preferred media but we had one thing in common, art. When you grow up this way you take it for granted and it doesn’t seem like anything special. It’s odd when somebody compliments you when you consider what you’re doing a doodle or a way to relax or to keep from being bored. It’s really an afterthought most of the time.
Recently, there was a weeks period of time that brought it to my mind that, hey, it’s time to actually do something with it. In the same week my boss at my paying job sent an e-mail out asking everybody to think about their career path. Since I’m a little older my career goal is to simply retire in good health. Then it hit me. What in the world am I going to do once I do actually retire? I certainly don’t want to sit and do nothing or be bored. In the same week I came across several home decor signs that really tugged at my heart and made me think.
So, of course, I made my own home decor sign and hung it in my craft room soon to become studio. I did some cleaning and started finding all my older artwork that I had forgotten about. The stars were lining up. So my now studio office is cleaned up and ready to do some art and do something with the precious gift I was given that I’ve taken for granted for so long. It’s never too late to follow your dreams.
